About Ada

Hailing from Kansas City, mezzo-soprano Ada Sadlier has dedicated her career in music to the craft of storytelling and strong vocal technique. She is completing her Bachelors of Arts in Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City this summer, and studies under the guidance of Dr. Maria Kanyova and Dr. David Sadlier. Ada specializes in coloratura mezzo-soprano repertoire, more specifically pieces from the Bel Canto and Baroque eras. She also maintains a fascination and dedication to the performance of art song, her favorites including the works of Gerald Finzi and Robert Schumann.  She is also an experienced musical theater singer. She has significant experience on the stage in a variety of roles, from comedic to serious, in a variety of styles. Her most recent performances include Edka from Jake Heggie's Two Remain, and Lucinda from Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. She has also been a member of multiple choirs including Conservatory Singers, and Conservatory Concert Choir, and has performed many major works, including Mahler's 2nd Symphony and Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Additionally she has been a featured soloist in Kansas City's famous Helzberg Hall at the Kaufmann Center of the Performing Arts. Additionally, she has a copious amount of opera chorus experience, and has been featured in the chorus of works such as Mozart's The Magic Flute and Marriage of Figaro. Ada has also studied abroad in the summers in Oxford with Music Across the Pond, and has performed with Anglican choirs at Worchester College at Oxford University, and had solo performances at Mary Le Strand church in London, and St. Anne's College in Oxford. She has worked with many talented individuals in masterclasses and clinics, including Teresa Cahill, Jake Heggie, Roger Vignoles, Larry Brownlee, Susie Parkes, Giles Underwood, Sophie Louise Roland, Simone Luti, Rachel Copeland-Skiba, and others. Ada has a significant cultural education as well, having traveled to over 16 countries, proficiency in Spanish, and intensive study of Italian, French, and German diction. Ada also has experience as a vocal instructor, having worked previously at Bach to Rock music school, and also as a private contractor. She comes from a family of musicians, with her mother Lelia Molthrop (a Julliard, Eastman, and Jacob's School of Music graduate) who is a classical and collaborative pianist, and her father David Sadlier (a Loyola and Jacob's School of Music graduate) who is a Wagnerian tenor. Ada currently lives in Kansas City with her fiancee Tucker Reed, and their cat. She enjoys playing guitar, antique shopping, travel, and exercise in her free time.
